Talking Distance with Lorna Rees
Timo meets the co-founder of Gobbledegook Theatre, artist, writer, musician, performer, producer and maker who’s love of creating work for the outside is part of: “making democratic spaces”. All designed with: “the power of disruption and joy.” Appearing in this year’s Arts By The Sea Festival with Cloudscapes, it and other productions such as Ear Trumpet reflect an outlook rooted in the natural world and a love of Earth Sciences, sometimes taking people to unusual places and always hoping to: “render the familiar strange”. Making the news in 2019 with her political “protest pants”, Lorna says: “activism is part of our art” but that art is also about play for people of all ages – “The link between theatre, playing and making stories is very close indeed” she says. And her personal walk of art took Mr Peach to a waypoint that many locals grew up playing in. Find out more about Lorna Rees at: https://www.gobbledegooktheatre.com
